Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program • Program of competitive awards up to $5,000 for study abroad to U.S. citizen students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university. Students who receive Pell Grants and who have been accepted into a study abroad program of at least four weeks in the same country are eligible for scholarships of up to $5,000 from the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program. Underrepresented students--including students with high financial need, from diverse ethnic backgrounds, community college students, students with disabilities, and students traveling to nontraditional destinations--are encouraged to apply. Currently, one out of three applications is accepted. The Gilman Scholarship does not offer funding for summer-only study abroad. NSEP David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarships • Scholarships for study in areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to national security. NSEP funds undergraduate study in Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, & Canada are excluded. The maximum award is $8,000 for a summer, $10,000 a semester, or $20,000 for a full academic year.

Robert B. Bailey Scholarship • Program supports study in CIEE’s International Study Programs for individuals or members of groups that have traditionally been underrepresented in study abroad. Beginning in spring 2009, award amounts are $1,500 for semester or yearlong programs and $500 for summer programs. The award is applied toward the applicant’s CIEE program fee.
Scholarships applications are due on the following dates: November 1 for spring programs, April 1 for summer, fall, and academic year programs.

Fellowships
The Institute for International Public Policy • A multi-year fellowship program of summer policy institutes, study abroad, intensive language training, internships, graduate study, and career development counseling for students from underrepresented minority groups. The program, designed to prepare students for international and foreign policy careers, is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered by the UNCF Special Programs Corporation.
