Study Abroad
Work and Study Abroad
Study abroad is a rite of passage for many college students of means. On the principle that TRIO students must have access to similar experiences, the Council in 2000 developed the first study abroad programs, in Mexico and South Africa, as an opportunity for TRIO students to receive a global educational experience. Working with our American and European partners, the Council designs and coordinates accredited study tours that allow students to view issues of educational access and opportunity in an international context. The Council also cooperates with corporate sponsors to promote work opportunities overseas for TRIO students.
Related to our charge of helping students to overcome class, social, academic and cultural barriers to higher education, the Council for Opportunity in Education believes international experiences are crucial to helping students understand themselves and the roles they can play in the development of their society and the world at large.
